BRENHAM -- Weikel’s Bakery, known for its homemade authentic Czech kolaches and other pastries, is opening a new bakery in Brenham.

The new bakery will be located at 2155 Highway 290 West (adjacent to the Westwood Chevron building), and is scheduled to open by early September.

“Our family has been making and serving homemade food in Fayette County for decades. We are very excited to expand our bakery and share our family’s joy for homemade food with the residents of Brenham and those traveling through,” said Philip Weikel, third-generation owner and manager of Weikel’s Bakery.

The original Weikel’s Store and Bakery is located in La Grange on State Highway 71 and has become a landmark for homemade baked goods, fresh deli sandwiches and unique gift items.

Weikel’s kolaches are noted for their fluffy soft and sweet dough, a closely guarded secret family recipe.

The 1,800-square-foot Brenham bakery will include a full-scale baking operation and a seating area for up to 16 guests. The menu will include an extensive assortment of kolaches, klobasniky (pigs-in-a-blanket), sweet rolls, pies, bread, muffins, cookies and cakes as well as a coffee, tea and soft drinks beverage counter.

“We feel fortunate to have secured a prime location in Brenham for local residents and travelers alike,” said Nick Hensley, Weikel’s Bakery operations manager.

“In addition to this high-traffic area, we feel the area’s history, culture and small-town charm are a good fit for our made-from-scratch baked goods,” said

The Brenham bakery is expected to hire both full-time and part-time employees.

In addition to the flagship bakery in La Grange, Weikel’s also send products fresh daily to Frank’s Restaurant in Schulenburg and The Village Market in Carmine. Baked goods also can be order online at www.weikels.com and shipped fresh to customers.
